Our Founder

Laura Zimmerman is a Nurse Practitioner and the Founder and CEO of Wattle and River Home Health. Her career spans advanced practice nursing, diabetes and chronic disease management, telehealth, digital health innovation and rural health reform. She has led clinical programs across Queensland, NSW and nationally, and is known for designing care models that are practical, evidence-based and deeply human.
Before creating Wattle and River, Laura spent more than 14 years working across hospital wards, chronic disease clinics, cardiac rehabilitation, rural general practice and advanced diabetes care. She has coordinated complex care programs, trained clinicians across Australia, and contributed to national reforms as a Principal Investigator with the Australian Centre for Accelerating Diabetes Innovations and as a JBI Implementation Science Reviewer.
Laura built Wattle and River Home Health to raise the standard of private home care for rural families. Her leadership blends clinical governance, multidisciplinary teamwork and genuine community connection, making care safer, more coordinated and more personal. She holds a Master of Nurse Practitioner from Flinders University and postgraduate qualifications in diabetes education, chronic disease management and health innovation.
Her values remain clear: dignity, respect, evidence and a commitment to helping people stay well at home with the right support around them.
